When to call 911
- •Bleeding that soaks through cloth after 10 minutes of pressure.
- •Deep wound with visible fat, muscle, or bone.
- •Bleeding from an artery (spurting).

Do not
- ✕Do not use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on the wound.
- ✕Do not remove impaled objects — stabilize and go to the ER.
After the emergency
- →Stitches usually needed within 6–8 hours if the wound gapes, is on the face, or is longer than half an inch.
- →Check tetanus vaccine status.
Prevent it
- ✓Baby-proof sharp corners.
- ✓Store knives and tools out of reach.
