Prevention
The best emergency is the one that never happens
Age-specific risks and the small habits that neutralize most of them.
Sleep-related suffocation
- ✓Back to sleep, every sleep. Bare crib — no blankets, bumpers, or toys.
- ✓Firm, flat surface. Room-sharing without bed-sharing for the first 6 months.
- ✓Keep the room at 68–72°F (20–22°C).
Choking
- ✓Nothing smaller than a D-battery within reach.
- ✓Watch for stray coins, buttons, and pen caps daily.
Falls
- ✓One hand on baby at every diaper change.
- ✓Never leave on a couch, bed, or changing table alone.
